Say, for instance, you’re looking for a pale blue and white, broad striped shirt/blouse. You’ll find any color under the sun, in all sorts of striped patterns, except for what you had in mind.
The same goes for shoes. The day you go shopping for hot pink stilettos, none of the shoe stores will carry hot pink, and if they do they won’t have the stiletto heel.
During my latest quest, I went looking for a cream and green quilt. I knew exactly where to go. I’ve been frequenting a particular bedding store in the Scarborough Mall for years and not only did they have the most beautiful designs, they were very budget friendly.
Image my surprise when I arrived at the mall and the bedding store was gone. For a moment I thought I had the wrong floor. Was the bedding store upstairs or downstairs? A quick trip up and back down confirmed that the bedding store was neither on the first nor second floor.
I tried Wal-Mart, Sears and The Bay, but each store I left empty handed. Oh they had quilts, but some were too busy, others too plain, others still too expensive. Darn, why did they bedding store have to move without informing anyone of their new location?
Thoroughly disappointed I did the only things I could do under the circumstances … I visited Godiva.
Have you ever visited a Godiva shop? It’s impossible to walk out with something in a little bag or box.
Lined up on silver trays, stacked with military precision, hundreds of dark, milk or white chocolate truffles wink at you, enticing you to try their creamy goodness.
You try to resist, but it’s a losing battle. Especially when one of the sales girl’s approaches, proffering you a tasting try. One bite and all resistance goes out the window.
In my case I was offered a milk chocolate coated truffle, filled with cream of almonds and dusted with sea salt.
This unlikely combination might make you frown, I did too, but as soon as I tasted the truffle (and I needed little or no persuasion), I closed my eyes and could feel my face relax as I was transported to Godiva heaven.
Did I buy some of the creamy almond and sea salt truffles? Of course I did. My favorite quilt store was gone, I had cruised three department stores without finding anything I liked … I deserved some comforting. Besides, I wanted to go to Godiva heaven again and again.
“There you go, hope to see you again,” the sales girl said as she handed me my truffles in a cute brown and gold packet.
“Oh I will,” I replied, and I meant it.
What excuse do you need to indulge in your favorite food?
