Men were ogling her, women didn’t quite know where to look, and children try to see as much as possible. And I wondered, when did it become socially acceptable to put it all out there?
I saw the same thing not so long ago where a girl sat in the middle of busy shopping centre, breastfeeding her baby, and another sat in the window of a coffee shop. Both were fully exposed.
If anyone had gone up to these women and asked them if they could have a look at their boobs, they probably would have gotten an earful, a flap across the face, or even been reported to the police for such an indecent proposal, but let there hang a baby from that boob and exposure is suddenly okay.
I know that some will say that breastfeeding is natural, but so is peeing, farting, and burping, but try doing that in public. Chances are you’ll get a few disapproving looks.
So much has changed over the years. There was a time that pregnant women wore a maternity dress. Nothing could disguise the pregnant body, but it was elegantly camouflaged. These days pregnant women wear tight-fitting outfits, emphasising their bump. While a pregnant state is nothing to be ashamed of, should it be accentuated?
What is notable though is that it’s only a certain type of women who show such lack of discretion. I have never seen sophisticated women wearing tight-fitting clothing while pregnant, and neither have a seen refined women breastfeed in public.
So, is it good breeding that has something to do with good manners and acceptable social behaviour, or is anything and everything allowed these days?
