Sometimes, after a particularly good night, it was to share the good fortune of our team (The Birdcage). Other times, after we didn’t do so well, it was to complain. Other times still, when my ball didn’t want to roll right or when the pins just didn’t want to fall, it was to vent my frustration.
Three years ago we joined Supreme Triples and I wondered what I was doing there. The league was made up of extremely good bowlers, many of which had rolled several perfect games (300). We felt totally out of place. You could say that, in this league we were out of our league.
That first year we didn’t do too bad though. I can’t remember where we finished, but it was good enough for us to come back the next year.
The second year we got to know some bowlers, we started to feel at ease around them, made friends and we did better.
And now we finished our third year with the league. We, The Birdcage, were made up of Dieter (the Raven), Austin (the Phoenix) and moi (the Condor). I picked the condor because it’s a big bird, a predator with an impressive wingspan, a bird to be feared. Am I a bowler to be feared … not at all, but it’s all in the mind.
And how did we do this year … pretty good.
The league season was made up of three sections.
In the first section (September – November) we came 1st.
In the second section (December – February) we came 3rd
In the third section (March – May) … we bombed.
Overall (September – May) we took 3rd place.
In the playoffs (final two weeks) we took … (drumroll) 1st place.
Not bad, considering that when we first joined, we felt like we didn’t belong there.
