There were quite a few encouraging replies to her post while one member asked if she was sure there were no sales. Did she monitor her book’s ranking?
Annie who had thus far ignored Amazon.com started to monitor her book’s ranking and to her surprise it seemed to be selling rather well.
At one point, the book’s sales ranking went from 2,199,300 to 350,902. Her author page reflected no sales though.
When she contacted Amazon.com about this, she received a generic reply. She questioned Amazon.com again, and this time a representative replied that every day hundreds of books get added to the website, causing her book to go from 2,199,300 to just over three million.
Annie pointed out to the representative that this wasn’t the case. Her book had gone from 2,199,300 to 350,902, a clear indication that one or several copies were sold. When she brought this to the representative’s attention, she didn’t hear from him again.
Next she did a little test. She bought three of her books herself through the Amazon.com website. She waited, kept an eye on her sales figures and saw nothing.
In yet another email to Amazon.com Annie revealed that she herself had ordered three books, so how could there be no sales? The representative replied not to contact Amazon.com again.
