Not everyone shares this festive mood though. Yesterday I spoke with someone who no longer puts up a Christmas tree in his business out of respect for the Muslim community. I was shocked to say the least.
If such allowances are made, what’s next? Shall we ladies stop wearing skirts that show our legs and tops that show cleavage? Shall we cover our hair? Or should we just go all the way and put on a burqa complete with facial mask?
If we ought to be respectful of the Muslim community, what about all the other communities? If by celebrating Christmas throughout the years, have we been disrespectful to Jews, Buddhists and the Hindu religion? If they put up with Christians celebrating Christmas, what makes the Muslim community so special?
From personal experience, I have never met anyone from another religion who objects to Christians celebrating Christmas. On the contrary, they think a Christmas tree is pretty and the decorations give a home or business a special atmosphere. I’ve even known a few people from other religions who put up a tree themselves. They stated that it doesn’t mean anything to them, but they like the lights and the colors of the tree and decorations.
I’m fine with the business man being respectful of the Muslim community, but in the process he is being disrespectful to me and hundreds of other Christian people who frequent his business. Not to mention that he is disrespectful of the Lord himself. After all, it's not about a tree or decorations or giving gifts, Christmas is first and foremost about His birthday we are celebrating.
