This morning I looked around the condo and I thought … OMG, what a mess.
The double sink was filled to the brim with dishes. Plates, cups, glasses, bowls, cutlery, pots and pans … it was like two leaning towers of Pisa.
With no hot water, dishes had to be done old school … heating up pots of water and pouring them in the sink.
I washed and dried, and washed and dried, and when I thought I was done, I found more dishes and washed and dried some more.
Meanwhile, Dieter tidied up and vacuumed the floor and rugs.
In the afternoon we got ready to go to Kennedy Bowl. This time not to spend time in a warm environment, but to compete in the New Year’s tournament.
When we stepped off the elevator of our building, the lobby was packed with people. No wonder, Tim Horton's was there with free coffee and tea and the Red Cross was there with blankets.
At Kennedy Bowl the alley was also packed. The tournament was in full swing and the one o’clock squad was on their third of four games, while spectators were watching family and friends play.
We got ready to bowl in the three o’clock squad. We put on our shoes, polished our balls, put on wrist guards and last but not least, put on music with earphones.
I found out a long time ago that I play better to loud music, and not only can I play my music as loud as I want to with earphones, I can’t hear what other bowlers are saying – thus influencing my confidence.
And things went pretty good. In the 3:00 p.m. squad I qualified first and overall I came in second.
Now it was on to the quarter finals – Round Robin.
I managed to beat my opponent and went through to the half finals. For this round my opponent was Dieter, yep my own son.
I wasn’t too worried. We play together all the time and occasionally I manage to beat him.
Unfortunately, this afternoon was not one of those times. Dieter played a very good game (236), while I scored a very bad game and he knocked me out of the competition.
Dieter went through to the finals and took second place.
All in all not a bad afternoon. I qualified, I ended up in the half finals, earned some cash, and best of all ... I had a good time.
